Stories of HOPE
“
Why was my life so difficult? Why didn’t I get the chance to go to school like other children? Why did no one care about me?”
Those questions haunted me every day. They pushed me into a darkness where I began to believe that ending my life was the only escape. Instead of hope, I filled my emptiness with hunger and the fumes of huff‑glue, trying to numb the pain that no one else seemed to see.
n 2011, two staff members from Teen Challenge of Cambodia (TCC) approached me as I wandered, hungry and alone. With compassion, they offered him something simple—an invitation to a safe place. I seized this lifeline, eager for any sign that someone cared. At the TCC rehabilitation center, for the first time, I was greeted with warmth, nourishing meals, and—most importantly—unconditional acceptance. I learned to read, and heard words of hope, words like “You matter” and “You are loved.” TCC became the family I never had.
Deep wounds take time to heal. There were heartbreaks—like the loss of his beloved sister to illness—but for every setback, there were mentors and friends at TCC, guiding my steps. I discovered faith, and a sense of belonging that changed my life. I began to believe I was capable of more. Step by step, I left behind the chains of addiction and despair.
My transformation is nothing short of miraculous. I graduated from the Bible School in Phnom Penh, and moved by gratitude, returned to TCC—not as a resident, but as a mentor. I now stands as a beacon of HOPE, teaching and encouraging other young people, helping them find the same light that once found Him.
